The photo from last week was when Gum Bend Lake had water. This is the effect of the drought. Not a drop of water remained in the lake. Fish died. It was horrific.
I'd never experienced anything like the drought that hit Condobolin from 2002.
The Lake was filled again in 2012 (I think) and has again become a focal point for the community and tourists.
This year, 2014, is the first year since 2001 that sowing has occurred in May, rather than late June/July, so maybe the drought has broken. Maybe people will get decent crops, and income this year. I can only hope. They've been a long time waiting, and hoping.
