Some Lovely Books

I've read some amazing books lately, so I thought I'd make a bit of a list.

The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng
This is beautiful. The writing is stunning, imagery superb and the story line is quite compelling.

Skios by Michael Frayn.
This is very clever. A lesser writer and it would be so unreal you'd scoff at it, but somehow Frayn sells the story in a very clever way. I'd love to work out how this works!

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce.
This is one of those feel good books, like the Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Book. It's a little crazy, but Harold Fry is gorgeous and you love his craziness. A lovely reflection on life and friendships.

Past The Shallows - Favel Parret.
Beautiful writing delivers this story, even though the topic isn't easy. The characters are lovely portrayals of brothers looking after each other as best they can.

Cold Light - Frank Moorhouse.
This is part of a trilogy, but can be read alone. It's long but very worthwhile. It talks of the early days of Canberra, and the life of Edith Campbell Berry a fictional character who comes to life in a way that makes you believe she existed.
