Happy New Year!
We survived surfing, just in case you wondered! I loved every minute of it - okay well, maybe not the first 5 or 10 minutes in the water where the surfboard seemed to do everything I didn't want it to do (like go sideways, wipe me out, flick up, roll over, run away from me). And maybe not the few moments after that when it bucked me off each time I tried to belly flop onto it - which had seemed so easy when I was a kid! But then, things seemed to click into place. So, I'm no Layne Beachley, but I did ride a few waves (on my belly), I did crawl my way to my knees and even (once) managed to get one foot up on the board.
And the best thing...? Usually the beach is packed but the day we went surfing was raining and miserable... Not a soul to watch me make a total git of myself!!!
I am hoping my nephew might loan me a board and I can do it a bit more often. How cool would that be? I can't describe the feeling of whizzing in on a wave - and I only did it lying down, imagine being able to stand and feel that same exhilaration. How incredible.
Gidget eat your heart out! (Now that's showing my age!)
