I've booked to attend the Romance Writers of Australia Conference, which is in August, in Adelaide.
I've excited to be going because Jennie and Lisa will be both be there and we haven't seen each other since our book was released, so celebrations required!
And I'll be with 'my tribe' - people who understand my need to write.
I'll be able to catch up with people I haven't seen in years. My last conference was 2014, but not everyone comes all the time, so there will be people there I haven't seen in 2, 3 or more years.
I get to catch up with my publishers. Harlequin take all their authors to a lovely dinner one evening, and that's always such a special feeling. That's when I feel like a 'real' author!
And Adelaide is a gorgeous city. We're at the Stamford Grand at Glenelg, where I attended the Nitrogen Fixation Conference back in, oh goodness, 2002. I still use the great backpack I got at that conference. It's one of the best ag conferences I've attended because it was smaller than most, the surroundings were beautiful, and the beach is right there at the doorstep. I do remember giving a talk for a project I'd been working on with a very eminent scientist - who asked the first question. I'll never forget that feeling of seeing his hand shoot in the air. I wanted the floor to eat me - but all went well in the end :)
So... Nitrogen Fixation Conference and Romance Writers Conference ... you probably can't get two more contrasting events! I'll let you know how it goes :)
