At the start of 2014 Jennie Jones,
Lisa Ireland and I had an idea.
“A dying town, a desperate plan, and dreams that can be
bought for a dollar…”
Suddenly, lots of thoughts were
flying across Australia via email and our town was born, along with the
problems it faced. By the end of 2014 – we’d written three new rural
stories all set in one town: Dulili, in the heart of country NSW.
“Dusty, depressed Dulili, an
outback farming town in New South Wales, Australia, is suffering a people
drought. In a final attempt to save their beloved town, a group of locals put
an innovative plan into action to entice newcomers, regenerate business, and
replenish the population: for a dollar a week, approved applicants can rent
properties in town in return for a bit of work, a bit of community, and a
chance at a long-term connection.”
This idea gave us
the opportunity to invest in what we felt was a unique situation for the town,
the theme, and for us as writers.
We wove our voices, styles and
scenarios around this theme of hope and rejuvenation and created one town with
three different stories of people looking for a chance, looking for a dream and
hoping for something more...
“The challenge attracts three
newcomers to Dulili, people looking for a chance at a new life. But what they
don’t expect is how the town will change them: the dreams, the dramas, and the
discoveries. After all, there are no secrets in a small town…and no
hiding when it comes to matters of the heart.”
Our rural stories will be out in
the first half of 2016! We can’t wait to share them with you.
