Uluru

Uluru after rain, 2007
I went to Uluru in 2007 with Pete, my Dad, and Pete's parents. Going there had been a dream for me. I'd booked a tour twenty years earlier, which had been cancelled, and I'd never got there. So we made it a big journey for the folks too, who had never been. We flew to Darwin, then caught The Ghan down the centre of Australia. We had tours in Katherine, and got off in Alice Springs to spend time there and at Uluru. Then back on the train to go to Adelaide and then home. It was a fabulous trip.

We went to see the sunset at Uluru, and it had been raining. The sunset wasn't very spectacular, the light just faded away. I had a film camera and a tripod, so I set up to take a few different photos of Uluru. The light was quite unusual, the rain streaming down the rock was incredible. I was quite caught up in taking shots, hoping for something unique - there are billions of photos of Uluru, I wanted something different.

This is one of the last photos I took before I realised we were the last ones there and had to go. The bus driver said to come back when the sun set - I guess my idea of the sun setting was a lot later than everyone else's!

I'll dig up some of the ones I took with the rain on the rock. But I'm pretty proud of this 'different' photo.
