I have read three of his books now and each has fascinated me.
An Instance of the Fingerpost - I read this some years ago. From memory it's one incident recounted by four witnesses. Each tells a vastly different story with brilliantly different point of view and voice changes. It's not until the end of the novel that you can find the truth.
The Deam of Scipio - this one was a time travels. Three people linked by their study going back and forth through time from the 5th century, the 14th century and the 20th century. It's a brilliant piece of work.
The Portrait - is entirely different. It's a one-sided conversation of an artist as he paints his friend's portrait. It confronts the past, talks of the present and poses the future, all the time revealing the story and discussing art.
How anyone can write in three very distinctively different styles is incredible to me. I thoroughly enjoyed each one and recommend them to anyone who wants something meaty to read.
