When will there be good news

I just finished this book and it took me far longer to read it than it should have. I found it disjointed and the story contrived almost to the point of disbelief. The characters were fabulous and that's what kept me reading. The coincidences were just too fictional - although, I know, the truth is often stranger than fiction! I just wasn't sold on it.
